Bolton Wanderers striker Jack Sampson has joined Southend on a month's loan, shortly after signing a new 18-month deal at the Reebok Stadium.<br /><br />The 18-year-old will be be available for the Shrimpers' trip to Northampton Town on Saturday.<br /><br />"He's a big boy. Six foot two. Left footed with a strong build," Southend boss Paul Sturrock told BBC Essex.<br /><br />"He's an exciting prospect. I need a bit of back-up height-wise up front and he fits that bill."<br /><br />He added: "He's here for a month. If he excites us we'll extend the loan. It's of great benefit to him to be coming to the sharp end of a team."<br /><br />The England Under-19 international is a regular in the Bolton reserve team and has committed to the club until the summer of 2013.<br /><br />"It's a good opportunity for me," he told the Bolton website.
